As human trafficking continues to be a major issue around the world, organizations that work tirelessly to put an end to it are needed more than ever. One such organization is Soroptimists International.
Soroptimist International is a global volunteer movement whose mission is to transform the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment and enabling opportunities.
Soroptimist International, consists of five Federations: Soroptimist International Africa Federation, Soroptimist International of the Americas, Soroptimist International of Europe, Soroptimist International of Great Britain & Ireland and Soroptimist International of the South East Asia Pacific.
Soroptimists Together Against Trafficking, under the umbrella of Soroptimist International of the Americas, is a coalition of clubs from Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties whose vision centers around the following:
- Education: provide and promote educational opportunities
- Support: support existing programs and organizations that provide prevention, education and services in our communities
- Provide: provide specific Soroptimist programs, like the Live Your Dream Awards, Dream It, Be It and Big Goal Accelerator Projects, to survivors and survivor-assisted programs
- “Be A Voice”: Be a voice by supporting laws through advocacy and promotion of social media campaigns
Our efforts include providing resources and education to local communities, working with organizations like The Salvation Army, Waymakers. local Human Trafficking Task Forces and others.
We hope to educate the public through campaigns such as the Digital Billboard Project which was a collaboration of three Soroptimist clubs: Oxnard, Ventura & Camarillo to educate and raise awareness that human trafficking is a local problem, not just a global one and to promote National Human Trafficking Awareness Month (January), conference participation such as the Ensure Justice Conference at Vanguard University in Costa Mesa, California and more.
Our hope is to help create a world where all people, especially women and girls, can live with dignity and respect, free from exploitation.
You can play a part in ending human trafficking in southern California by supporting our organization. Whether through volunteering or donating, every little bit helps in their fight towards a world free from human trafficking. Remember, together we can create a better future.
